Miami 2011: Swedish House Mafia Brings Masquerade Motel to the Beachfront
(0)Consisting of Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Steve Angello, the Swedish House Mafia is a true electronic music supergroup, and they are known for consistently producing big room bangers like “One” and “Leave the World Behind“. For Miami, this year, they went all out and set up an amazing 10,000+ person venue on the sand in Miami Beach for their Masquerade Motel event, the name of their immense popular Monday night at Pacha, Ibiza. We were fortunate enough to attend and captured the video clips below.

Peter Hook Presents “Unknown Pleasures”, Dec. 11, 2010
(0)On Saturday the 11th, we attended a performance of Joy Division’s highly influential album “Unknown Pleasures” by Peter Hook (Joy Division and New Order bassist) and a backing band. Like most of Joy Division’s fans, we never had an opportunity to see them live, and this event was a very special opportunity to see one of the original band members perform their debut album. There were two encores which featured “Transmission”, “Atmosphere”, “Love Will Tear Us Apart”, and “Ceremony”. Perry Farrell made a surprise appearance providing vocals for “Transmission”.

Above and Beyond Trance Around the World 350 Live at the Palladium
(0)Last Friday, we had an incredible time attending Above and Beyond’s 350th broadcast of “Trance Around the World,” their weekly show which attracts approximately 30 million listeners each week. The Los Angeles show sold out in less than 24 hours, and the crowd loved all seven hours of it which featured sets by Boom Jinx, Jaytech, Cosmic Gate, Above and Beyond, and Super 8 and Tab.

The Sound of Sónar
(0)Currently taking place in Barcelona, Sónar is in my opinion one of the world’s best festivals for true electronic music aficionados. This year Los Angeles is well represented by Flying Lotus and Nosaj Thing. As part of their festival coverage, El Pais has an excellent article on the new electronic sounds coming out of Los Angeles, led by Flying Lotus and others. BBC Radio 1 is at Sónar this year, and their website has a great feature called the “Sound of Sónar.” It’s an interactive wall where you can click on a thumbnail of festival artists to hear a sample of their work. Check out the wall here.
